Transitional Kindergarten
Hesperia Unified will be offering a Transitional Kindergarten program beginning in the 2012-13 school year. The Kindergarten Readiness Act, which will be implemented in more than 700 school districts throughout California next fall, is a historic reform to kindergarten education. It is the first year of a two-year kindergarten experience for students who are born between September and December. It also changes the kindergarten entry date from Dec. 2 to Sept. 1, so children enter kindergarten at age 5. The law phases in the new age requirement by moving the cutoff date one month a year for three years, beginning in the fall of 2012.

• 2012-13:
kindergarten entry date moved back to Nov. 1

• 2013-14:
kindergarten entry date moved back to Oct. 1

• 2014-15:
kindergarten entry date moved back to Sept. 1

If you have a child who was born between November 2nd and December 2nd, 2007, your child is eligible for Transitional Kindergarten. Please contact your neighborhood school for registration information. If you need help in determining which elementary school to call, please contact the Hesperia Unified District Office at (760) 244 -4411, ext 7233.
